AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) TRAINING

Overview

Although the AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) is now part of the HSE 1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and 3 Day First Aid at Work (FAW) courses. This course provides the First Aider with more in-depth knowledge about the use of the AED. Anyone is able to complete this program and it’s not restricted to First Aiders.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no academic requirements to join this course, however, individuals should be able to kneel and perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) TRAINING COURSE STRUCTURE

THE COURSE INCLUDES AND EXPANDS ON THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

  • How to assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
  • The importance of preventing cross-infection.
  • The need for recording incidents and actions.
  • How to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator.
  • Chain of survival
  • Heart Problems
  • Abnormal Heart Rhythms
  • Resuscitation with an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Unconscious patient
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Choking

ASSESSMENT METHOD

The course is assessed by the Instructor throughout the session.

Tasks that are assessed are:

  • Administering CPR
  • Using the AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Recovery Position

4 hours (the qualification lasts for 1 Year)
